Pull-Apart Pizza for the Playoffs!

For our anniversary, and to celebrate Playoff Season, we decided on the ultimate game party snack - pull-apart pizza! Ditch the chips and dip, put away the buffalo wings, refuse delivery pizza, and don't even think about those freezer finger foods. Check out this delicious dish!

Breaking Bread!
You start with a simple round roll of sourdough bread. I would advise you to get a large roll because this can be addictive and you don't want to run out by halftime. Cut the roll almost all the way through, leaving maybe an inch between knife and bottom of bread, by x and y until you have a criss-cross type of pattern.

FRESH mozzarella was FRESHLY GRATED <3

Then start stuffing your fresh mozzarella cheese, as much as you like or will be preferred by everyone on the couch. Get it in every nook and cranny until it's practically falling out. Then, get started on your pepperoni.

OH SO REGULAR

The pepperoni can be stuffed according to preference, as can the size of the pepperonis. We chose the usual pizza size. I have seen variations with really tiny pepperonis and I'm sure you could have lots of fun with those large pepperonis.

IT''S PRACTICALLY PIZZA. IT'S PIZZA.

Then, the yummy really kicks in! Now, we start on the glaze. Even by itself, this glaze smells like pizza. Pour it on your toast and call it pizza. Bake it in rolls and call it pizza. It seriously smells like pizza.
  • 1/2 stick of butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 pinches oregano
  • 1/2 tsp Parmesan cheese

Melt the butter completely and then mix in everything else. Of course, the measurements are flexible depending on preference and the size of your bread roll.

DAT, DOE

Preheat your oven to 350. Transfer your pizza heaven onto an aluminum foil covered baking sheet. Cover the roll in another sheet of aluminum foil. Keep in oven for 10 minutes, checking in at the 7 minute mark. After ten minutes, remove the aluminum foil cover. Keep in oven for an additional 7 minutes, checking the progress at five minutes. The bread should come out golden-brown, the pepperonis a dark red, and all of the mozzarella should be gooey.

PIZZA HEAVEN

Bring out the marinara sauce and enjoy thoroughly! For reference, our 8'' roll was enough for the five of us. This was a super fun and delicious recipe, both to smell and taste. I definitely recommend that everyone try it at least once in their lives. And what better time than the playoffs?

This is the empty shell, it looks like a disturbing face

Sugar Cookies and Royal Icing: Take Forever!

Last time we made sugar cookies they were cool and everything, but I especially loved the cookies on which I devoted about 10 hours minutes each, carefully icing each one into a masterpiece. While Kajsa and Finn knocked out a gazillion Jackson Pollocks at a time and produced a lot of deliciousness, I made the most realistic wine glasses and bottles out of Cookie that I had ever seen. I decided to take a day off and dive into an abyss of artwork, sitting forever alone in my kitchen making beautiful cookies all day, because I have all the time in the world. WORTH IT.

I MADE THESE WITH MY HANDS

I began the whole process the night before Epic Natalie Cookie Day, on ENCD eve. I whipped up the same delicious dough Kajsa and I have been using; the one with almond extract. Delicious. This time around, I really wanted to use the wine glasses and bottles for cookie cutters again, but I couldn't find them anywhere in my house. So it was Off To Sur La Table with my enthusiastic teenage brother to buy a martini glass cutter, as a substitute until I found my other alcohcutters. And it was awesome!

WHO WANTS A MARTINI, AND A LION HORSE THING

I had a few other cookie cutters from my grandmother, who baked like she was Bob Marley. Flowers, circles, deformed figurines (witch? cat? I don't know). After baking forever I got frustrated creative and made my own freaking shapes with a knife, no metal shapes or anything. Most of these looked like continents, or gingerbread men. Or islands.

So I let all those guys cool off, while making my own royal icing instead of buying it from Sur La Table. I used a "healthier" recipe that didn't call for corn syrup, because honestly, who even has corn syrup? This one calls for a cup of powdered sugar and half a cup of white sugar as a base. Then add 2 tablespoons of water and 2 teaspoons of milk, along with a dash of almond extract if you're feeling risqué.

Without further ado, I made a bunch of colors...

BEAUTIFUL... Yeah that's a pizza

SOMETHING TO KNOW ABOUT THIS ICING: Stick it in the freezer for a few minutes. It's. So. Runny. I tried adding more sugar, microwaving, yelling, among other things to find a good icing consistency, but the freezer works the best. It's like magic. But don't leave it in there forever, I mean it's not like you want a sweet brick of sugary ice or anything weird, just a thicker icing. Stir it once it's out of the freezer and you're good to go.

And as far as colors go, I just separated my bowl of white icing into smaller dishes, adding colors as I please. A brown icing takes just a bit of cocoa powder and chocolate syrup, and then I made black by adding blue to that.

I continued to create pride and joy, all over the place.  My favorite band got in on this, because I guess some of the random shapes I made (gingerbread men, probably?) looked like Green Day.

#BILLIELOVEME

Tré even has his drumsticks! Mike is also Hulk Hogan for some reason! And the heart grenade on the album cover is made out of sprinkles AND frosting. What am I doing with my life? Oh, right, being AWESOME. We ate the band and the bottle of Jack, but I just couldn't eat the album, so I left it on the ledge of a building on Powell street. Now more people can appreciate my art! GO FIND IT.

Till next time! Off to make the banana bread again for Fathers' Day because it's his favorite.

Super Bowl Pizza Rolls

I was originally inspired to make these after having a popular restaurant chain's version. Soon, I had found a nice easy recipe on Pinterest! These are absolutely gorgeous treats for an event like the Super Bowl, if only because it's not just chips and dip.

You start with Pillsbury Crescent rolls and add on five mini pepperonis each. Pepperoni is easy to find, usually near the salami and other lunch meats in your local grocery store. On top of the pepperoni, add shredded mozzarella and just a dash of garlic salt.

Sweet Golden-Pizza!!
Roll them up and put them in a 375-degree preheated oven for about 12 - 15 minutes. At golden-brown, the rolls are done and smell absolutely heavenly.

I think this was definitely one of my favorite easy recipes. It was quick and cheap to accomplish! Not to mention, they tasted extremely amazing and exactly like pizza!

Stay tuned next week for more easy recipes, and next weekend for some Valentine's Day sweetness!
